Interpolation based computationally efficient predictive control. (English) Zbl 1093.93013

The interpolation based model predictive control algorithms for systems with sample periods of the order of milliseconds or less are proposed. The earlier general interpolation techniques are extended in a way which avoids the need for the use of semi-definite programs, but retains the enlargement (and explicit characterization) of a stabilizable set. Also, the co-linear interpolation technique is extended in a way that reduces the computational complexity (to the online solution of a quadratic program, or even a linear program) but still provides a recursive guarantee of feasibility. An extensive illustrative study and comparison of the proposed algorithms demonstrates (i) the potential increase in the feasible region, (ii) the good performance achieved, and (iii) a comparison of performance/feasibility with the global optimal values.
