College mathematics for elementary school teachers: a programme model? (English)

We will describe a three-course, nine semester-hour mathematics course sequence required of all students at our university who are seeking state certification to teach in elementary school (grades K-8, ages 5-14). We attempt to assess the overall impact of our programme from its inception in fall 1996 through fall 2002. We will do this by considering both quantitative and qualitative information obtained from student records, student course evaluations, and interviews with faculty members involved with the sequence during this time period.
