Summary: The authors explain how smartphones can be an essential part of the technology mix in the mathematics classroom. The digital era appears to have heralded an acceptance that technology provides a more accurate and reliable solution to many problems. Laser measurement, GPS, SATNAV can all deliver more accurate measurements, or so it seems. This project seeks to involve students in mathematical activity supported by devices including the smartphone. Being a proficient smartphone user could become an essential skill in the mathematics classroom.
