This 821 page text is completely reviewed by its title. It is a course companion for one of the four mathematics course options in mathematics and computer science for the IB diploma programme. The material is very well presented, and contains, among other topics: sequences, series, induction, functions, trigonometry, single variable calculus, probability (through Bayes’ theorem), descriptive statistics, vectors, and complex numbers (through DeMoivre’s formula). Also included is a 74 page chapter, “Prior learning,” i.e. prerequisites (beginning with “Calculate: $12 - 5 + 4$."). It contains two practice papers, a complete set of answers for the exercises, and a PC and Mac compatible CD. The text is further enhanced with many historical notes and open-ended essay type, thought provoking questions about mathematics.
