Summary: Historically, mathematics REUs have mainly been offered by institutions that specialize in undergraduate education. The purpose of this article is to offer one model for an undergraduate summer research program at a large research university by communicating and discussing the details of the UC Berkeley Topology, Geometry, and Operator Algebras Summer Research Program for Undergraduates. The author helped organize and design this program, and twice served as the research group mentor for the symplectic geometry group.
