Mathematics laboratory: an opportunity for the development of pro-social skills. (Laboratorio di matematica: un’occasione per lo sviluppo di competenze pro-sociali.) (Italian. English summary)

Summary: This article summarizes the work done with some middle school 4th year students in Ticino concerning statistics and, more specifically, the teenagers’ use and disposal of mobile phones. A question was raised about how dealing with statistics contents in a special problem-based environment, the so-called “laboratory of mathematics”, could not only help the development of pro-social behaviors and collaboration, but also promote a change in the general attitude towards mathematics.
