Summary: Drawing on my doctoral research, this paper explores some of the qualitative tools used to gain a small group of girls’ perspectives on mathematics and how they make sense of their mathematical identities. It introduces a range of approaches including scrapbooking, digital photography, drawings, concept-mapping and metaphor elicitation used within a small-scale interpretive study, along with presenting some findings and implications for practice.
