Summary: The author uses visualization to develop the idea of the $n$th term. She offers a novel introduction to the notion of sequences and the $n$th term, stimulated by students’ creative examples from their own experiences ‒ and how the transformation from visual imagery to algebraic notation is can be seen as a natural part of the developing ideas.
