Young children’s use of measurement concepts. (English)

Summary: This paper describes preschool children’s measurement representations as they engaged in drawing a map. The use of small cars, boats, trains and aeroplanes helped the children to make the connections between two and three dimensional space. They also made connections to their awareness of length. The children’s own experiences provided the motivation and stimulus to provoke their mathematical thinking about quantifying different attributes of objects.
