From the text: Students learning mathematics in the United States can expect to find a variety of different types of mathematics textbooks on their desks or downloaded on the multitude of electronic platforms that they now bring to school with them. These textbooks are designed to provide students with the knowledge needed to succeed in life. For the majority of high school graduates the next step after high school is some type of postsecondary education. In this article, I describe the results of a study that examines the relationship between the secondary mathematics textbook that students learned from and their achievement and course taking patterns in college.
