Summary: Through the interpretation and analysis of archived materials and research literature, we initially review the life and scientific contribution of the mathematician and the mathematics educator Yang Yongfang (1908‒1963). He made important contributions to point set topology and other frontiers of mathematics. Western advanced mathematical theory and the Western mathematics educational system had been introduced into the northwest inland by him, too. In the Northwest National Associated University and one of its successors, the Northwest University, he cultivated a new generation of mathematical talents, and eventually founded a new era of mathematics and mathematics education in Shaanxi and northwest China.
