Help on query formulation
The pigeonhole principle, two centuries before Dirichlet. (English)

It is pointed out that what is nowadays famous as the “pigeonhole principle" was already (implicitly) mentioned by the French Jesuit Jean Leurechon [Selectæ propositiones in tota sparsim mathematica pulcherrimæ, Gasparem Bernardum (1622)].
