From the introduction: Effective mentoring is one of the most significant factors for increasing student motivation, engagement, and retention for underrepresented minority students (URMs) in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). In an effort to increase diversity in the STEM fields, New York City College of Technology has developed a three-tiered mentoring program which includes 1) peer-led team learning (PLTL) leadership training, 2) research scholars, and 3) graduate studies preparation.
