Starting with the ratio of the volumes of a sphere and its circumscribing cylinder, and the ratio of the corresponding surface areas, the article then goes into the corresponding ratios of the volumes and surface areas of a sphere and a circumscribing cone. Avoiding calculus and trigonometry throughout, the volume and the total surface area of the circumscribing cone are finally minimised.
