Summary: The author describes the life of an important Russian mathematician Andrei Andreyevich Markov who dealt with the theory of probability, theory of numbers and mathematical analysis. In addition to these disciplines, Markov was concerned also with mathematical linguistics, which is the central theme of this series of articles. In this part we can find Markov’s brief biography, achievements in the field of mathematics, linguistics as well as didactics of mathematics.
