Mathematical connections involving the Platonic Solids. (English)
Math. Sch. (Leicester) 37, No. 2, 8-11 (2008).
From the introduction: For current teachers of geometry, the Platonic Solids offer a variety of opportunities to make connections between various mathematical ideas that are part of the standard curriculum, as well as show students how simple new ideas offer deeper insight into older ideas. I shall not attempt here a rigorous treatment. My goal here is to show how ideas from the past get reassessed as we learn more sophisticated ways of thinking about mathematical objects; these historical and intellectual history developments are good sources for teachers to explore in their classrooms.
