Summary: Course of development in statistical education and increasing need for statistical knowledge pose difficult challenges to teachers and their profession as how to equip students with quality statistical foundations. Article also describes goals, which must be achieved in learning of probability and statistics in Slovenian secondary schools as well as in international standards and reveals weak points in learning of statistics present in our schools and abroad.
