The great importance of Felix Klein’s vision of geometry as the study of the properties of a space that are invariant under a given group of transformations, known as the Erlangen Program (1872) is discussed by pointing out the influences in the evolution of three Italian mathematicians: Corrado Segre (1863‒1924), Gino Fano (1871‒1952) and Guido Castelnuovo (1865‒1952).
