Summary: The difficulty in understanding is the main barrier to the learning of mathematics, and a must in forming maths understanding is the students\rq self-directed activity. Maths speech, sound and effective problem-solving, varied exercises and knowledge systematization are activities that could promote the understanding. Therefore, they should be adopted in ordinary teaching, in accordance with the principles of “equal opportunity, multi-level, regularity and chronology”. Meanwhile, the assessment of students\rq achievement should be used as a continual process in math teaching.
