Hurdles and strategies in the teaching of algebra, part IV. (English)

This is the fourth in a series of articles presenting teachers’ suggestions for addressing pupil difficulties in algebra. Whereas the previous articles have focused mainly on pupil errors and teaching approaches for particular topics, this final article will consider some general principles for algebra teaching and associated motivational techniques. As previously, comments attached to bullets are ’strategies’ submitted by teachers in the second stage of the project: several of these comments are personal opinions and left in the sharp form in which they were submitted. Also included are five photocopiable sheets of classroom resources based on items sent in by teachers.
