Designing research on teachers’ knowledge development. (English)
Bragg, Leicha et al., MERGA 26: Mathematics Education Research: Innovation, Networking, Opportunity (MERINO). Vol. 1 and 2. ,. 262-269 (2003).
Progress in improving the practices of teaching and learning requires a shared knowledge base for teaching that is grounded in professional practice. In this paper, we argue for an approach to the design of research on teachers’ knowledge development that can contribute to a knowledge base by being open enough to accommodate variability in perspectives and structured enough to allow for the sharing of knowledge. We illustrate this methodology with examples of investigations in the development of secondary teachers’ knowledge.
