Geometry - period 2000 and after. (Géométrie - période 2000 et après.) (English)
Coray, Daniel (ed.) et al., One hundred years of ‘L’Enseignement Mathématique’: Moments of mathematics education in the twentieth century. Proceedings of the EM-ICMI symposium, Geneva, Switzerland, October 20‒22, 2000. Université de Genève, Faculté des Sciences, Mathématiques (ISBN 2-940264-06-6). L’Enseignement Mathématique, Monograph No. 39, 133-163 (2003).
The teaching of geometry lost importance in the second half of the $20^{th}$ century, but there is now a widespread agreement on the necessity of maintaining and renewing it. Four main issues for geometry learning and teaching in the $21^{st}$ century are discussed: the development of spatial awareness; the dual nature of geometry and the relationship between theoretic and intuitive geometrical knowledge; the learning process to formal reasoning; the use of Information and Communication Technology.
