Substantial advances in computational software and applications ported to handheld devices have greatly assisted in relaxing the bounds on the types of problems accessible to students in a mathematics curriculum. Be that as it may, we submit that very few of these programs have been developed with effective pedagogy and student learning central to their design. In this paper, we present several thoughts on this shortcoming and suggest ways in which the current state of technology could be improved to better meet the needs of an ever-changing audience of learners.
