Heuristic and Analytic Processing: Age Trends and Associations with Cognitive Ability and Cognitive Styles. (English)
J. Exp. Child Psychol. 83, No. 1, 26-52 (2002).
Examined developmental and individual differences in tendencies to favor analytic over heuristic responses in three tasks (inductive reasoning, deduction under belief bias conditions, probabilistic reasoning) in children varying in age and cognitive ability. Found significant increases in analytic responding with development on first two tasks. Cognitive ability related to analytic responding on all tasks. Cognitive style measures explained analytic responding variance after variance shared with cognitive ability had been controlled. (ERIC)
