Computer algebra systems in mathematics instruction: implications from research. (English)
Math. Teach. (Reston) 95, No. 8, 586-591 (2002).
Synthesis of research on CAS in mathematics education; effects of CAS use on learning of skills, concepts, applications, problem solving, and use of multiple representations. Central to the authors’ concern is finding an appropriate balance between conceptual understanding and routine-manipulation skills. They conclude that the next generation of research needs to provide rich descriptions and ways of thinking how students reason symbolically when they have access to automated symbolic manipulation.
