Adult learners of mathematics: Working with parents. (English)

Two research projects on parental involvement in mathematics in minority and working-class communities are presented and analyzed. Dialogical learning and the concept of ’confianza’ (trust) are key notions towards the development of a supportive learning environment for the adult learner. This paper underscores the interest that the parents have in developing an understanding of mathematics for themselves. Some questions about what may seem as a dual role - parents as parents (mothers) and parents as adult learners of mathematics - are raised.
