Mental images in mathematical activity. Reflection on an investigation. (Imágenes mentales en la actividad Matemática. Reflexiones de una investigación.) (Spanish)

Este articulo describe parte de una investigacion en la que se trata de averiguar si los alumnos de 8.$\degree$ de EGB (de edades entre 13 y 14 anos) utilizan las imagenes mentales cuando resuelven y dan sentido a problemas matematicos, y analizar si el papel del profesor tine proyeccion en esta actividad matematica de los alumnos. Presentamos algunos resultados de una experiencia realizada en un colegio de Tenerife con tres alumnos y su profesora de matematicas. Se constato la poca valoracion que la maestra dio al pensamiento visual de un estudiante, en contraste con su apreciacion por el aprendizaje procedimental de otro estudiante acorde con el curriculo escolar.
The main topics of this paper deal with (a) to enquire whether two 8th grade pupils (aged 13 to 14) made use of mental images or not when they solved mathematical problems, or when they had to find a meaning for the mathematical questions they were asked, and also, (b) to analyze the role played by the teacher in this mathematical activity. We describe some results from an experience with a mathematics teacher and three students which took place in Tenerife (Spain) during an academic course. We note the lack of value placed on the visual thinking of a student by the teacher, in contrast to her appreciation for the procedural learning, in accord with the school curriculum, in other student.
