Using learning growth points to help structure numeracy teaching. (English)

The article has two underlying assumptions. First, in numeracy learning in the early ages, pupils progress through a relatively small number of key stages. In the article these stages are called growth points. Second, teachers are better able to support all aspects of children$\rq$s numeracy learning if they are aware of these growth points. The ideas presented are being developed as part of the Early Numeracy Research Project (ENRP) which was commissioned by the Department of Education in Victoria (Australia) to research the learning of numeracy and to identify curriculum and teaching supports that can assist young children. The focus is on the first three years of schooling.
