Scott, Nick et al., Mathematics: creating the future. , (ISBN 1-875900-20-9). 150-158 (1997).
How can calculators be used in infant grades? What long-term effect will calculators have on children’s learning of number concepts? These were two of the questions addressed by the Calculators in Primary Mathematics project, a four year research project carried out in six Melbourne schools. This paper summarises the positive findings related to children’s learning and relates these to the types of classroom activities devised by project teachers. No detrimental effects were found.
