Research and results in mathematics education: some contradictory aspects. (English)

The authors propose a classification of results in mathematics education, suitable to better analyze some of the present internal and external difficulties and contradictions in mathematics education. Next, some contradictions deriving from the expectations of the natural interlocutors of mathematics educators will be discussed. Also contradictions inherent in the effort of establishing mathematics education as a specific field of research will be considered. Finally, they establish some connections between the needs emerging from the preceding investigation and the problem of mathematics teachersâ€™ preparation, in relationship with present reality and current mathematiciansâ€™ ideas about this problem.
