Fewer and fewer. Pt. 3. (Sempre meno. Terza parte.) (Italian)
Lett. mat. Pristem, No. 26, 16-21 (1997).
As was pointed out in a paper that appeared in issue n. 24 of the journal, and debated in a second paper in issue n. 25, students matriculating for the first degree in mathematics in Italy have dropped by nearly 50\% in the last six years. Gibilisco and Nava claim that this phenomenon is mainly due to the fall in the demand for maths teachers in Italian secondary schools and to the strong competition with graduates in many other disciplines who are also allowed to teach mathematics.
