Described here are the lines of enquiry and the results of a three year study in mathematics education at the lower middle school (for students aged 11‒14 years). The teachers had decided to replace part of the traditional programme and above all the traditional methodology, with a style of teaching that more directly involved the students at the affective and metacognitive levels.
