ab: In The Kings Mirror from 1260 it is said: knowledge of reckoning is useful
    for the merchant, but we know little about how the reckoning actually
    was done in Nordic countries before 1300. In the Icelandic-Norwegian
    Hauk’s book from ca. 1310 we find an introduction to the calculations
    with hindu-arabic numerals in the treatise which is called Algorismus.
    Here the sources of this treatise, and what it can tell us on the
    learning and understanding of mathematics compared to in other parts of
    Europe at this time are discussed.
