ab: This book constitutes the Proceedings of the 8th International Congress on
    Mathematical Education (ICME-8) which was held at Seville, Spain, from
    July 14 to 21, 1996. This book of Proceedings of the 8th International
    Congress on Mathematical Education includes the texts of the four
    plenary lectures, reports of the various groups presentations and
    debates, abstracts of regular lectures and tries to report on almost
    all activities on the program. Like most proceedings this volume
    intends to give an overview of the full congress and to facilitate,
    even to those who participated actively in some sections of the
    program, useful informations and conclusions that arose during the
    congress in all parallel activities taking place. Full text of a large
    number of regular lectures will appear in the companion volume on
    Selected Lectures from the 8th International Congress on Mathematical
    Education.
