ab: The first article discusses the goals of the mathematics curriculum in the
age of the CAS. This section includes basic definitions and begins the
discussion of what mathematical activities are necessary to achieve
these goals. The discussion is included with a classification of these
activities into three categories: those that are unchanged by the
availability of CAS; those activities where the CAS will have a great
impact; and activities that were not stressed prior to the CAS, but are
now possible and desirable. The chapter is rather optimistic in its
tone and premise.
