ab: The book is written for all people engaged in the inservice education of
mathematics teachers in both primary (elementary) and secondary
education. It comprises three sections: a general introduction and
historical perspective; a collection of papers describing and
critiquing particular inservice programmes in the presented countries,
and a synthesis of themes and issues arising from these programmes. The
