The mathematical activity, described in this article, is based on a practical investigation in Sattler \&{} White (1998, p. 50). The activity involves a sequence of rational numbers whose limit is an irrational number. The activity draws on a range of mathematical content. Particular features are:  the limit can be derived by numerical investigation;  the sequence oscillates about the limit;  mathematical induction proofs are involved.
