ab: The present book is addressed to electrical engineers, but may be
considered almost equally well by other professionals and students
looking for a suitable self-contained introduction to probability
suitable for self-study. It covers elementary calculus of probability
and random variables, reviews a number of typical distributions,
discusses descriptive statistics, provides an introduction to
inferential statistics, introduces random processes in general and
special random processes. Actually, the treatment of random processes,
over a 100 pages long, is what I consider as the most characteristic
feature of this book compared with similar textbooks. Other features,
rather typical for a book addressed to the above audience, are:
avoiding measure theory and proofs, a lot of simple examples, many
graphs, many nice and easy problems. It is clear that the author has
made a great effort to show to the reader the essence of most problems
that are discussed. He did exactly what he promised by choosing the
title “Fundamentals of applied probability and random processes".
