The teaching of geometry lost importance in the second half of the $20^{th}$ century, but there is now a widespread agreement on the necessity of maintaining and renewing it. Four main issues for geometry learning and teaching in the $21^{st}$ century are discussed: the development of spatial awareness; the dual nature of geometry and the relationship between theoretic and intuitive geometrical knowledge; the learning process to formal reasoning; the use of Information and Communication Technology.
