Summary: Students' learning problem solving needs, among others, excellent interconnected learning environments, which are based on scientific findings. The article presents one example how billiards can support mathematical investigations in an application-oriented workshop in the topic inner product of two vectors. A well-founded classroom research is characterized by a reality-oriented research methodology. Therefore the article focuses on the design based research methodology in the selected mathematic example. With this method learning environments can be developed and evaluated with a scientific claim.
