Part of the authors' summary: The paper presents some didactic questions connected with the application of computers in the process of solving mathematics problems. Only those results of the research that concern solving the following problem are presented: Find all values of the parameter m such that the function $f(x)=\vert{}mx+1\vert-\vert2x-m\vert$ is: (a) bounded; (b) bounded only from below; (c) bounded only from above. Thirty five students, observed individually were solving that problem. The research went through seven stages. The analysis of the collected material enabled us to formulate partial answers to some of the previously asked questions, and showed other, interesting facts. The research findings offer interesting remarks that are sometimes in opposition to the commonly accepted views. There is no doubt that the computer is a grand tool that has unquestionable advantages, but it should be used with caution as when misused it can do more harm than it can bring profits.
