abstract = {Summary: One of DGE's strenghts is to equip us with the ability to keep fixed a background geometrical configuration. That is, we can study the variation of an aspect of a DGE figure while keeping other aspects constant, hence anticipating the emergence of invariant patterns. In this paper, the DGE was placed in the context of variation theory. Central concepts of discernment, variation in the theory of variation were discussed in DGEs to illustrate the potential partnership between the two enterprises. Patterns of variation (contrast, separation, fusion, generalization) proposed in variation theory would be perceived under DGEs.},
