abstract = {Summary: The present paper shows some basic school students' ways to interpret the recurrence idea in the second phrase of enunciation of open-end mathematical question. We analyze 96 students' written work with a qualitative research approach. The students, in general, interpret and use the recurrence idea with the interpretations they do at the first phrase. The interpretations of this phrase delimited and modify the strategies built and influence the students' performance.},
