This text originates from a set of handouts whose purpose was to help students understand the mathematics behind the derivation of important equations in classical geophysics and get a better insight into the theoretical background of computational techniques exploited nowadays in the field. This book complements existing introductory and intermediate texts in theoretical geophysics providing necessary auxiliary material, detailed explanations and stepbystep derivations of fundamental equations usually found in monographs and more advanced textbooks. The author did an excellent job presenting in a lucid and concise manner all information needed by students to fill gaps in the proofs and work out missing details in standard course books in geophysics. The interested reader can also explore bibliography for further indepth studies. In conclusion, this is a very helpful and easy to read reference text useful both for students and specialists working with geophysical equations.
