Summary: The purpose of this chapter is to describe several advances and trends in teaching mathematics to students with learning disabilities. Mathematics disabilities affect between 5\% and 8\% of students in the general population. These students generally experience serious difficulties in developing requisite concepts, skills, and strategies for success in mathematics and, consequently, are at risk for school failure and poor post-secondary outcomes. Research in special education has identified a number of evidence-based practices that have proven effective for teaching students with learning, attention, and/or behavioral disorders that interfere with success in mathematics. Following a discussion of student characteristics and evidence-based practices, two examples of research programs focusing on mathematical problem-solving interventions for students with learning disabilities are highlighted.
