From the text: On several occasions recently I have heard teachers say that they want their learners to understand which of `the big three' averages (mean, mode and median) is the most suitable one to use in different circumstances. However, on none of these occasions have I seen a clear example that I have agreed with of when one average is obviously `more appropriate' than the others.
