Ertel, Hans
Ertel's potential vorticity. Edited, collected and with an introduction by Wilfried Schröder and Hans-Jürgen Treder.
(English)
[B] Ertel's Collected Papers 3. Bremen-Rönnebeck: Interdivisional Commission on History of the International Association of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy (IAGA); Bremen-Rönnebeck: History Commission of the German Geophysical Society (DGG). 175~p. \$~20.00 (1997).

This booklet contains reprints of various shorter papers, centered on Hans Ertel's potential vorticity theorem. The collection begins with 12 selected papers by Ertel himself, followed by ``reflections on Ertel's potential vorticity" (14 items) and ``comments and letters" (4) by various authors. An appendix contains an annotated reprint of a paper by C. Truesdell on the kinematics of vorticity.\par A somewhat larger volume of selected papers by Ertel (different from the ones presented here) appeared a few years ago [Geophysical hydrodynamics and Ertel's potential vorticity, Interdiv. Comm. Hist. IAGA, Bremen-Rönnebeck (1991; Zbl 1052.01535)].
