Křížek, Michal
Fifty years of the finite element method.
(Czech)
[J] Pokroky Mat. Fyz. Astron. 37, No.3, 129-140 (1992). ISSN 0032-2423

The popularizing paper gives the basic characterization of the finite element method, as well as important data from the history of the method, and a survey of the fundamental problems in the method. Special attention is payed to some Czech authors like Zlámal, Ženíšek, Babuška, Feistauer, Haslinger, Hlaváček, Nečas, etc. In the end, some trends in the finite element method are mentioned. Everything is presented in a very fresh and transparent form.
