Apostol, Tom M.
A centennial history of the prime number theorem.
(English)
[A] Bambah, R. P. (ed.) et al., Number theory. Basel: Birkhäuser. Trends in Mathematics. 1-14 (2000). ISBN 3-7643-6259-6/hbk

The paper gives the step-by-step history of the prime number theorem. The prime number theorem is the theorem which describes the distribution of prime numbers which can be written in the form $\pi(x)\sim x/ \log x$ where $\pi(x)$ is the number of primes $\le x$. As usual, the paper is well-written and it is easy to read for the specialists in the field and non-specialists.
