The author introduces the concept of locally irreducible continuous maps (= li-maps), characterizes coreflections in the category of Boolean spaces and li-maps, and demonstrates that in the category of compact Hausdorff spaces and li-maps coreflections often are just minimum ${\cal P}$-covers (for suitable covering properties ${\cal P}$).
